If we had to choose only one word to summarise Nadine & Filipe’s big day, it would be “joyful”. This couple was an absolute delight from our first meeting, and we enjoyed providing them our services. As well as their British-Portuguese heritage, the couple shares the same fun-loving, easy-going temperament which was evident in their celebration.
Nadine opted to get ready in the luxurious surroundings of Claridge’s in London. Our experience is that more brides are choosing to use a hotel suite for their preparations – typically the one in which they are spending their wedding night – because it adds comfort to their special day as well as to our images. We are happy to work in whatever environment the bride or groom chooses. However, a hotel gives us more of a “blank canvas” backdrop to work with, and it also means the bride (or her family) do not have to worry about anything.
Filipe readied himself at his family home, with his best man and groomsmen. You only need to look at their expressions in the group shot with the guys to understand the jovial, lighthearted mood. Nerves may have given him a nudge – every groom gets them – but they certainly didn’t distract Filipe from his mission! With his suit and shades, Filipe looks as if he just walked off the set of a Fellini film and is on his way to see his equally chic lover.
Nadine is a member of the Orthodox church, and the couple chose St Sophia’s Cathedral in Bayswater for their ceremony. It was sincere and beautiful, and an excellent reflection of their love and commitment to their united future. Orthodox churches are highly decorated, with St Sophia London being a stand-out example of the Byzantine Revival style. The azure blue dome with gold mosaic iconostasis is simply breathtaking, and it was a genuine pleasure to work in such gorgeous surroundings. Filipe cemented his Fellini heartthrob status on the stairs of the church when he gave his bride a passionate kiss.
A beautiful London wedding would not be complete without an iconic red London bus! Nadine and Filipe hired on to transport their guests from the church to their reception venue, which was the fabulous Montpeliano Restaurant in Knightsbridge. It was a first for us, to capture a wedding where a mariachi band greeted the guests at the door of the venue, and Filipe and Nadine set the tone for the celebrations by dancing their way into the restaurant as husband and wife. It was a fantastic welcome, being warm and lighthearted and lots of fun.
Nadine and Filipe were the perfect hosts, spending lots of time on the dance floor with each other and with all their guests to the jazz vocals of the second band. We could not have been made to feel more welcome as Nadine had ensured we had a table and plenty of food to eat, even giving us a slice of wedding cake to take home. It was an absolute pleasure to record this wonderful couple’s happy day, and we wish them every happiness for the future.
