Anna and Christos’ wedding in Birmingham and Leicester was a delight to photograph. We started from Anna’s bridal preparation at her family house in Leicester. In true Greek Cypriot style, my assistant Caroline and I were welcomed into an abundant home buzzing with family and friends of all ages. It was a beautiful wedding day and made for a great setting for shots of our bride, Anna. We did our usual close ups but my favourite was capturing Anna getting ready in her parents bedroom and having her mother and fathers wedding photo in the shot with her. As Greeks we have many traditions and I captured each of them and their intricate details, including the tying of the red scarf and the traditional band playing.
Meanwhile whilst the bridal preparation was taking place, second wedding Photographers Thekla and Kristian were at Christos’ house in North London photographing the grooms preparation. He too had Greek Cypriot wedding traditions being carried out, including being shaven whilst accompanied by traditional music. The sense of fun and charisma was captured in these images amongst Christos and his groomsmen.
The next Photography series was the waiting at the church. At the same time one of the second Photographers went to Birmingham. His mission was to carefully shoot the decoration and details of the reception at Hilton Metropole Birmingham, before the first guests arrive. Now back in the Greek Orthodox Church of St Nicholas and St Xenophon in Leicester, the flower arrangements were spectacular to capture, along with the little details like the flowers girls bouquets. The best moment however was to capture the arrival of Anna, the tears in the limousine and then how her and Christos responded to each other at first sight.
The Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony was vast and grand. We had both myself, as well as Thekla and Kristian shooting for this reason. So we could capture every moment under the camera, to stand still these moments as memories for days to come.
After the ceremony the bridal party and family proceeded to the Leicester Botanical Gardens. Anna and Christos had actually done a pre-wedding shoot here with me, so it was lovely to capture them back here as a newly married couple. Caroline and I chose to set up a few shots for the extra added drama. The photo with Anna’s veil in the wind, was actually Caroline throwing it, however it made for a spectacular natural shot!
The reception was thrown at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham. With over 400 guests the suite was ablaze with pink, white and gold accents. There were some fabulous arrangements including a wall when you walked into the suite of gold framed photos, some of which I had taken previously of the couple. We also chose to zoom in on photos of the traditional Greek Cypriot wedding dances, as well as their finishing with the money dance! It was a wonderful affair and as a team we thoroughly enjoyed capturing this very special day for Anna and Christos.
